A note from the kitchen
I am Yulan. I cook the way I think; following something until it makes sense.
Rampe is a pandan leaf. In Sri Lanka it goes into almost everything. Not because it is the main thing, but because it is always there, in the background, making everything taste more like itself. That felt right as a name for this.
These are not restaurant recipes. They are the ones I actually make, mostly in a small kitchen in Plymouth, sometimes badly, sometimes better than expected. A lot of them are Sri Lankan. Some are not. All of them are mine now.
I started writing them down because memory is not reliable and because I wanted to be able to make the same thing twice.
